OmniSite’s GuardDog cloud software helps municipal water and wastewater utilities receive alarms, track trends and diagnose problems at remote sites.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — OmniSite, a leading professional provider of cellular and cloud-based remote monitoring solutions, offers GuardDog, our custom-built cloud software. GuardDog helps municipal water and wastewater utilities receive and acknowledge alarms, track and analyze trends, and diagnose problems at remote pumping stations.
Tens of thousands of OmniSite monitors are located across the United States, monitoring municipal sewage and water pumping stations. These monitors provide early warning of malfunctioning equipment, so that utility staff can take action before a failure leads to an overflow into lakes, streams or homes. GuardDog is the secure, cloud-based notification system and historian that brings the data from these monitors together in one place.
“Early notification of equipment failures is the key to environmental protection,” said Tom Ward, President and CEO of OmniSite. “If we can land a man on the moon, we can certainly prevent sewage from spilling into our creeks and rivers.”
Many small towns do not have the technical staff needed to work on complex monitoring systems. GuardDog is 100% web-based and comes with every OmniSite device, so no custom software has to be written or configured. Utility managers can use GuardDog for the following tasks:
• Customizable call-out lists: Designated staff receive alerts by email, text message and phone call.
• Map view with real-time alarms: Operators can see which locations are in alarm directly from a map.
• Alarm settings: Alarm triggers can be created for each input channel of OmniSite equipment.
• Historical data: Records reach back up to six months, so staff can track and analyze trends.
• Report export: Reports export to Excel, Word or PDF in one click.
• Scheduled reporting: The standard service plan delivers a report every 24 hours. The elite service plan delivers 15-minute reporting on analog values. The Realtime reporting package can deliver 5 minute reporting on analog values or selected reports.
• Multi-device access: GuardDog is accessible through our GuardDog 2.0 mobile app or the web browser. This can be accessed through your phone, tablet, or PC.
Utilities can combine different OmniSite products on a private GuardDog cloud. The OmniBeacon sends alerts for conditions such as high level, power failure, low backup battery and weak cellular signal. The XR50 PLUS records pump runtimes, gallons per minute (GPM) and pump cycles. The Crystal Ball PLUS monitors both digital and analog sensor signals and can serve as a backup pump controller in municipal lift station applications.
GuardDog also supports our peer-to-peer control feature, which we first offered in October 2024. Peer-to-peer control allows any OmniSite product to signal another product for interlocked control across long distances. Operators set it up through a fill-in-the-blanks table instead of complex programming. For example, one device can stop pumps when another device triggers a high-level alarm. For municipal drinking water systems, this approach supports multiple water towers and pumps in alternation or zoned arrangements.
We have made several changes behind GuardDog to support its reliability and future development:
• In 2022, we started a multi-year project to migrate our back-end servers to multiple regions within Amazon AWS, for high availability, high redundancy and a secure back end.
• In January 2024, we started a multi-year project to create GuardDog ver 2.0. This version adds advanced features that accommodate WINGs, our multimodal device that combines camera surveillance, telemetry and a PLC (programmable logic controller) data gateway.
Clients do not need to set up GuardDog alone. Through our Configuration Services, OmniSite technicians configure the GuardDog cloud interface for a client’s project. For OmniBeacon installations, the client fills out a short form included in the box and emails a photo of it to support@omnisite.com. Our team then sets up the device and tells the client when it is ready for testing. Clients also have access to local representative support and web and phone app.
“We are proud to offer in-person product training that is free of cost,” said Ward. “Our product training spans 1.5 days at our training facility in Indianapolis.”
OmniSite started in 1998 as Logical Concepts, Inc. in the garage attached to Tom Ward’s family home. The XR50 wireless monitoring system followed, and in 2001 Ward applied for a patent on his cellular technology. Today, from our headquarters in downtown Indianapolis, we provide services to clients and serve businesses nationwide.
