Community Health Systems, Inc. (“CHS”) (NYSE: CYH) released its 2026 Community Impact Report today, detailing some of the many ways the organization is improving healthcare quality and outcomes, supporting its workforce, and strengthening communities.

The 2026 report includes notable operational and financial highlights* from the previous year.

  • Patient Care: Quality healthcare services were provided at more than 12.1 million total patient encounters.

  • Uncompensated Care: $4.4 billion was delivered in charity care, uninsured discounts, and other uncompensated services.

  • Economic Impact: $5.4 billion in payroll and benefits supported the workforce and local economies and $443 million was paid in income, property, sales, and other taxes.

  • Capital Investments: $398 million was invested to increase access to primary care and emergency services, expand service line capabilities, modernize facilities, and upgrade clinical technologies.

The report also highlights critical advancements in patient safety, workforce programs, and local outreach, including:

  • Clinical Excellence: Patient safety initiatives introduced in 2022 have now reduced sepsis mortality by more than 50% and have prevented more than 900 hospital-acquired infections.

  • Workforce Support: More than $90 million has been provided to employees in student loan repayments and tuition assistance through the Pathways Program since its launch in 2022.

  • Community Initiatives: Numerous volunteer projects and charitable contributions fortify community services, including more than 200,000 jars of peanut butter collected by CHS hospitals for local food banks in 2026 during the annual Jars of Love peanut butter drive.

In addition to key metrics, the report highlights inspiring individual stories of caregivers and patients, including the son of an immigrant in rural Alabama who overcame economic barriers to become a cardiothoracic surgeon; a labor and delivery nurse in Alaska whose clinical intuition saved a mother following childbirth and alerted her entire family to a high-risk hereditary condition; and a Tennessee volunteer now helping patients in the same hospital where doctors performed her life-saving quintuple bypass heart surgery.
