Day-long program opens National Hereditary Cancer Week, with keynote speaker Sara Sidner
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — BRCAStrong, a national nonprofit that has delivered nearly 11,500 pre-mastectomy care packages and supported more than 13,500 people impacted by breast and gynecologic cancers, will host Education That Empowers on Saturday, September 26 at the Embassy Suites Fort Lauderdale. The day pairs a morning of expert-led education with an afternoon fundraising luncheon keynoted by Sara Sidner, Trusted CNN Anchor & Senior National Correspondent & Breast Cancer Advocate.
The summit falls one day before National Hereditary Cancer Week, September 27 through October 3, which includes National Previvor Day on September 30.
Most cancer programming is built around treatment and survivorship. Far less exists for previvors, people who learn they carry an inherited mutation and face decisions about screening, surgery, fertility and menopause before any diagnosis. BRCAStrong president Tracy Milgram was 21 when she learned she carried a BRCA2 mutation.
The organization itself started with her daughter. Gabriela Posner was about six and a half when she watched her mother recover from a prophylactic double mastectomy and told her she was “like a butterfly.” Gabriela is a high school senior now, and the idea she sparked has grown into a national nonprofit.
“When I learned I was BRCA2 positive at 21, I didn’t have a community to turn to or people who understood the decisions ahead of me,” said Milgram. “BRCAStrong exists so no one has to navigate this alone.”
Morning sessions cover previvorship and survivorship, hereditary cancer risk and prevention, mental and sexual health, body image, and menopause care. Speakers include Jessica MacIntyre, DNP, MBA, APRN, AOCNP, FAANP of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami; Dr. Eleonora Teplinsky, Director of Breast Medical Oncology at Valley Health System; and Dr. Jordan Emont, a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner. Sidner will also join a morning question-and-answer session.
Admission is $150. Educational seating is limited to 100 attendees on a first-registered basis, and financial assistance is available for qualifying attendees. The event marks a shift for the organization, which marked its tenth anniversary with a gala in September 2025 and made education the centerpiece of its 2026 signature event.
Proceeds support BRCAStrong’s educational programming, advocacy, care packages and support resources. Sponsors include Platinum sponsors AstraZeneca, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Myriad Genetics; Bronze sponsor Toriabel Aesthetics; table sponsor Baptist Health Cancer Care; and community sponsors The Witherspoon Law Group, Ambry Genetics, Memorial Breast Cancer Center and Clear Path Genetics, which will provide on-site genetic testing at the event.
