The audit and assurance firm of Grant Thornton in the U.S., Grant Thornton LLP, today announced that Ash Dalnoot has been named to the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s (PCAOB) newly formed Inspections Modernization Council (IMC).
Dalnoot was selected from more than 100 applicants across the financial reporting ecosystem to serve on the 12-member council, a resource group composed of outside parties that will provide perspectives to inform the PCAOB’s efforts to modernize its inspection program and thereby improve audit quality.
According to the PCAOB, the IMC will consider a range of potential changes, including generating more meaningful outputs for consumers of inspection reports, leveraging technological innovations such as automation and artificial intelligence, and focusing inspections on firms’ systems of quality control.
“Ash’s appointment to the Inspections Modernization Council reflects both his outstanding expertise and the strength of talent across our Audit & Assurance practice,” said Ron Messenger, CEO of Grant Thornton LLP. “His perspective, shaped by years of experience as both a practitioner and a regulator, will be a valuable asset as the PCAOB works to modernize its inspection program. We congratulate Ash on being named to this well-deserved and important position.”
Based in Grant Thornton’s New York City office, Dalnoot has nearly 25 years of public accounting experience, including more than five years as an inspections specialist at the PCAOB. He currently serves on the Grant Thornton LLP Partnership Board and leads the firm’s broker-dealer audit practice, serving as a lead engagement partner responsible for audits of complex regulated entities, including broker-dealers, specialized financial service complexes and digital asset platforms. A trusted advisor to financial services clients operating in highly regulated environments, Dalnoot has deep experience in regulatory compliance, internal control frameworks, financial reporting and complex accounting issues.
In addition to his client responsibilities, Dalnoot serves in governance roles outside the firm, including as a board member and audit committee chairman, bringing a governance-oriented perspective to his work with clients and their boards. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and a former member of the AICPA’s Stockbrokerage and Investment Banking Expert Panel. Dalnoot earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Georgia.
