13,200 Pounds of Rice To Be Distributed to Families in North and South Carolina

Local mosques and community partners join Zakat Foundation of America’s effort to ease grocery burden for underserved and refugee families amid rising costs

DURHAM, NC, UNITED STATES, August 28, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Zakat Foundation of America will distribute 1,200 bags of rice, totaling 13,200 pounds, across North and South Carolina from August 29th through September 19th , providing critical relief to families struggling with the rising cost of groceries.

These distributions will take place at nine locations throughout the Durham, Charlotte, Cary, and Rock Hill areas, in partnership with local mosques, community centers, and outreach organizations. The Islamic Association of Raleigh will distribute 240 bags to refugees and other underserved residents near Raleigh, while AlNoor Islamic Center will distribute 100 bags to underserved families in the Fuquay-Varina region.

As grocery prices continue to climb, families across these communities are being forced to make difficult choices between rent, utilities, and putting food on the table. This distribution is intended to meet that urgent need and stand with neighbors when they need it most.

• Sept. 1, 12–2 p.m.: North Durham Masjid, 2609 Carver St, Durham, NC 27705
• Sept. 4, 1–2 p.m.: Jamaat Ibad ar-Rahman, 3034 Fayetteville St, Durham, NC 27707
• Sept. 7, 2–4 p.m.: Parkwood Food Hub, 5123 Revere Rd, Durham, NC 27713
• Sept. 14, 2–4:30 p.m.: El Centro Hispano, 2000 Avondale Dr, Durham, NC 27704
• Sept. 19, 11 a.m.–12 p.m.: Cary Masjid 1155 W Chatham St, Cary, NC 27511
