Estani Honors Her Grandmother’s Legacy With New Cumbia Version of “Tú de Mí Te Acordarás”

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, September 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Estani’s “Tú de Mí Te Acordarás” and “Déjame En Paz” are part of Tu De Mi Te Acordarás, a 15-track tribute to her grandmother, Rosita Lopez, a Conjunto and Bolero singer in San Antonio during the 1960s and ’70s whose music had nearly been lost to time. Along with her documentary of the same name, the album reimagines songs connected to Rosita’s recording career and includes spoken interludes in which she shares pieces of her own story. Both featured songs are currently on the Latin Grammy ballot.

Estani grew up surrounded by Conjunto, Tejano, Rancheras and boleros alongside jazz, soul, R&B and pop, but the South Texas music connected to her grandmother has become central to this project. She sees the album as a way of returning Rosita’s voice to a history in which women’s contributions were too often overlooked.

That connection is especially direct on “Tú de Mí Te Acordarás.” Written in 1967 by Anita R. Ovalle specifically for Rosita Lopez, the song remained part of the family’s musical memory for decades before becoming the title and emotional centerpiece of Estani’s album and documentary. For Estani, it also connects “three generations of women”: Ovalle, who wrote it; Rosita, for whom it was written; and Estani, interpreting it nearly six decades later.

After recording the original Conjunto version, Estani envisioned a more celebratory Cumbia interpretation. Grammy Award-winning producer Beto Martinez of Grupo Fantasma produced and rearranged the new version while retaining the song’s original melody, story and South Texas roots. Martinez also mixed both featured songs.

The “Tú de Mí Te Acordarás” video uses family photographs and archival still images as its foundation. AI-assisted animation introduces subtle movement to the photographs, allowing moments from before Estani’s birth to appear in motion. “Watching these images come to life was surreal and deeply emotional,” she says. For Estani, the technique serves as a bridge between inherited memory and the present rather than an attempt to alter the history contained in the images.
