Former Magnite SVP and Prebid Chairman Steps Into Executive Leadership Role;
Focus on Driving Open Source Standards Across Agentic AI, Identity, and Sell-Side Optimization
NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Prebid.org, the leading open source ad tech organization dedicated to ensuring fair, transparent, and publisher-first solutions, today announced the appointment of ad tech veteran Garrett McGrath as President.
McGrath, former Senior Vice President of Product Management at Magnite and long-serving Chairman of the Prebid.org Board of Directors, takes the role of President at a defining moment for the open web. Bringing over 25 years of digital media and product innovation experience, McGrath will oversee Prebid’s operational strategy, committee stewardship, and growth as publishers and buyers demand independent alternatives to walled gardens.
The appointment comes as Prebid.org accelerates critical initiatives across the programmatic ecosystem, including the rollout of Prebid Sales Agent as the organization begins building in the agentic space, expands enhancements in Prebid Mobile SDK 4.0 and drives ongoing leadership in identity, addressability, and measurement.
“Garrett has been a foundational architect of Prebid’s mission for years, serving as Chairman and guiding our community through seismic shifts in digital advertising,” said Joel Meyer, Chairman of Prebid.org. “Few people understand both the technology and the community as well as Garrett does, making him exceptionally well-positioned to guide Prebid into its next era. As AI-driven agentic transactions reshape the programmatic supply chain, the importance of privacy-first identity and sophisticated curation will only grow, and Garrett’s product vision and deep operational expertise will prove invaluable to our member community.”
“Having worked alongside Garrett during his years on our Board, I’ve seen firsthand how passionate he is about ensuring publishers retain control over their tech stacks and monetizable assets,” said Katie Morgart, VP of Marketing & Strategic Partnerships at Prebid.org. “This is an extraordinary moment for Prebid. The industry is shifting and independent publishers need transparent, open source alternatives more than ever. Having Garrett at the helm as President gives us the vision and momentum to dive into this next phase of digital advertising.”
McGrath joins at a pivotal moment, as the open web faces dual pressures from regulatory shifts around Google’s ad ecosystem and the rise of AI-powered media buying agents. In his role as President, McGrath will oversee Prebid.org’s day-to-day strategic direction, board alignment, member growth, and technical roadmap development.
“Serving the Prebid community as Board Chairman was an honor, but stepping into the role of President at this specific juncture in ad tech is an incredible opportunity,” said Garrett McGrath, President of Prebid.org. “The open internet is undergoing a massive structural evolution. From agentic AI buyers interacting directly with sell-side infrastructure to clean room data signals and advanced identity enrichment, Prebid is the connective tissue holding the open web together. My priority is to ensure our open source tools remain the global benchmark for trust, efficiency, and publisher independence.”
